The problems of relapse after multidrug therapy -report of three cases-

Abstract
After completion of multidrug therapy which were thought to be sufficient, three cases
of leprosy relasped. They were a 56-year-old woman with four-year medication, a
75-year-old woman with three-year medication and a 14-year-old girl with two-year
medication. The time-intervals between the end of the medication and development of
relapse were, respectively, 4 months, 6 months and 20 months in that order. All three
cases showed good responses by the readministrations of the drugs after the relapses.
With those experiences we reconsider several points in the management of leprosy such
as the importance of surveillance after completion of the treatment by the multidrug
therapy, predisposing factors for the relaspse and mental damage by the relapse.
